Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong- Boateng , has stressed that, re- electing Former vice president Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia as the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party ( NPP) would be a wrong move for the party.
Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV, Prof Frimpong Boateng stated that, the current state of the NPP no longer reflects the one he knew and served.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng heavily criticized the party’s internal elections, claiming there was widespread malpractice when they picked their last presidential candidate.
“Look at how they elected their last flag bearer-twisting weak people’s hands, bribing delegates, intimidating others. This is the beginning of corruption, and this should not be allowed in any serious institution or any serious party”. He stated.
Despite his criticism, Prof clarified that he does not hold any personal grudges against the Former Vice President. He added that Dr. Bawumia is a “nice person “but cautioned that personal traits alone are not enough for leadership at the highest level.
He encouraged Dr. Bawumia that, he can only win the hearts of Ghanaians if he distances himself from those he said were responsible for the economic difficulties under the regime of the former president Nana Ado Dankwa Akuffo Addo.
