As the New Patriotic Party gradually inches toward its next internal leadership contest, calls for unity and discipline are becoming louder.
According to the Eastern Regional Communications Director of the party, Mr. Evans Osei Yeboah, these concerns are fueling growing support for Dr. Bryan Acheampong as a possible consensus flag bearer.
Mr. Yeboah argues that the intense rivalry between camps aligned with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has exposed deep divisions within the party. In his view, the NPP’s chances in the 2028 elections may depend on its ability to rally behind a candidate capable of uniting all factions.
Central to Dr. Acheampong’s appeal, he explained, is his emphasis on discipline and leadership. A former United States Air Force officer, Dr. Acheampong is perceived by his supporters as someone with the training and temperament to restore order within the party’s ranks.
Mr. Yeboah expressed concern about recent public exchanges among supporters of leading aspirants, describing them as damaging to the party’s image. He believes such conduct reflects a lack of internal control and respect for party values.
Another factor boosting Dr. Acheampong’s profile, according to Mr. Yeboah, is his approach to campaigning. He noted that the former Minister of Food and Agriculture has cautioned his supporters against insults and personal attacks, insisting that political competition should be issue-based and respectful.
Youth unemployment also featured prominently in the discussion. Mr. Yeboah pointed out that young people are demanding opportunities, not rhetoric. He cited political scientist Professor Michael Quaye’s view that leadership aspirants must demonstrate their capacity to create value, both in public service and private enterprise.
In this respect, Dr. Acheampong’s investments in the hospitality industry have been highlighted as evidence of his commitment to development. Rock City Hotel at Kwahu, described as the largest hotel facility in Ghana, is frequently referenced as a symbol of job creation and private-sector leadership.
Mr. Yeboah shared these insights during a political discussion on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem, adding to the growing debate about who is best positioned to lead the NPP into the future.
