Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has emphasized that his choice to run in the Ayawaso East National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary is motivated by a desire to serve rather than a personal motive.
Following the passing of Mahama Naser Toure, the constituency’s member of parliament, Baba Jamal is one of six candidates who have selected nomination papers to run in the primary before the by-election on March 3.
Speaking to reporters following his nomination, he urged delegates to take into account his background and ability to provide the constituency with what he called “meaningful development.”
“Tomorrow, there will be vetting for all the candidates who have presented their documents. Those who think and continue to ask why Baba Jamal is coming back and leaving Nigeria as a High Commissioner to take the title of Honorable. Let me make it clear, my motivation is to serve not materialistic; it is humanism and service to the people.
“I believe that my service here will be more useful to my people and also to the nation, even more than my service in Nigeria, not because I don’t regard my position in Nigeria. I hold it in high esteem. When duty calls where you are needed more, you need to respond to it,” he said.
Baba Jamal will run for the NDC ticket against Hajia Amina Adam, the widow of the late Ayawaso East MP, along with four other candidates in the constituency’s by-election on March 3.
