Six basic schools within the municipality have come together to engage Kindergarten (KG) pupils in various sporting and creative activities aimed at promoting their physical development and nurturing their talents.

The event, which took place at the Omenako Presby School Park, featured exciting activities such as sack race, 500-metre race, “how to dress to school” competition, football games and other fun exercises designed for the young learners. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as pupils actively participated and showcased their abilities.
Speaking at the programme, Madam Vivian Ansah, the KG Municipal Coordinator at Omenako Presby, emphasised that education should not be limited to the four walls of the classroom. According to her, children need opportunities to explore their talents through outdoor and co-curricular activities.
She noted that sports and other extracurricular activities help children to build confidence, teamwork, discipline and leadership skills. Madam Ansah further appealed to parents not to suppress their children’s talents but rather encourage them to participate fully in school programmes.

“Our children are very talented. Parents should not prevent them from engaging in school activities. Instead, they should support and motivate them to develop their gifts,” she stated.
She also called on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), the Member of Parliament (MP), and the government to support early childhood sports development by providing essential items such as footballs, jerseys, cones and other sporting equipment to enhance the programme.

Mr. Asumaku Paul, one of the organisers, also stressed the importance of sponsorship and community support for such initiatives. He explained that the annual programme is organised to identify and nurture talents at an early age.
According to Mr. Paul, many great athletes and professionals begin discovering their abilities at a very young age, and programmes like this provide a strong foundation for future success. He noted that without adequate sponsorship, it becomes difficult to provide the necessary equipment, refreshments and motivation for the children.
“These children are very talented. With the right support, some of them can grow to become great sports personalities and responsible citizens who will make the country proud,” he said.
Mr. Paul further revealed that the programme has been running every year, and participation continues to increase. However, he appealed to corporate bodies, local businesses and philanthropists to partner with the organisers to sustain and expand the initiative.

He concluded by encouraging stakeholders to invest in early childhood development, stressing that nurturing children’s talents today will contribute positively to the nation’s future.
