The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South, Ransford Owusu Boakye has assured residents in the municipality that significant progress has been made in resolving streetlight challenges across the municipality, stating that although not all issues have been fully addressed, authorities are “almost done.”
Mr. Owusu Boakye stated in an interview with Kwamina Sam Biney on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem on the state of streetlighting in the New Juaben South Metropolitan Assembly that when he took office, several parts of the New Juaben were plunged into darkness.
“When I assumed office, almost all the streets were dark,” he said. “But today, from Mile 50 to the Prison area, and from the Police Station to Ada and its environs, we have fixed all the streetlights there.”
According to the MCE, the Assembly has made considerable strides in restoring lighting in key areas to improve visibility and enhance security for residents.
He, however, acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly along the Poly to Abrewa Nkwanta stretch. He explained that the problem in that area is not due to faulty bulbs but rather the theft of transformer cables.
“That problem is not about bulbs; it is due to stolen transformer cables. As I speak, we are working on a solution to fix it,” he stated.
Mr. Owusu Boakye further disclosed that he had engaged the Ministry of Energy to support the Assembly in tackling the lighting challenges. He added that by the time officials from the Ministry visited, some affected areas, including Mile 50 and its environs, had already been repaired by the Assembly.
He also revealed that streetlight bulbs had been replaced in Abogri and surrounding communities, where residents had previously endured prolonged darkness.
While admitting that not every issue has been resolved, the MCE expressed confidence that the municipality is close to fully restoring streetlights across affected areas.
“We have not been able to solve every single problem yet, but we are almost done,” he assured.
