The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North, Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo Frempong, popularly known as Chief Buffalo, has announced a cash reward of GH¢5,000 for any student in the constituency who obtains aggregate six in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in 2026.
According to the MP, the initiative is intended to motivate students to pursue academic excellence and inspire young learners across the municipality to take their studies seriously.
Hon. Frempong made the pledge during the Independence Day of Ghana celebration organized by the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly at the W.B.M Zion SHS Field in the Eastern Region.
He explained that education remains a top priority for his leadership, emphasizing that investing in young people is the surest way to secure the future development of the municipality.
The legislator further outlined several initiatives he has introduced to strengthen the educational sector in Abuakwa North. These include reading competitions among basic schools, the “Children to Parliament” programme, which exposes pupils to leadership and governance, and plans to organize a municipal mathematics quiz competition to sharpen students’ analytical and problem-solving skills.
According to him, the various programmes are designed to encourage intellectual curiosity, build confidence among students, and nurture the next generation of leaders, innovators, and professionals in the constituency.
“The future of Abuakwa North is bright when we place strong emphasis on education,” Hon. Frempong stated. “I am committed to supporting our youth and creating opportunities that will help them excel academically and contribute meaningfully to society.”
Residents and stakeholders in the municipality have welcomed the MP’s initiative, describing it as a significant motivation for students and a demonstration of his commitment to improving educational standards in the area.
Many parents and teachers believe the reward scheme will encourage healthy academic competition among students and inspire them to aim for outstanding results in the upcoming BECE.
