Ghanaian duo of Yaw Yeboah and Derrick Jones have been handed a lifetime ban from Major League Soccer (MLS) after violating the league’s strict gambling policy.
Following a thorough investigation into betting activities linked to league matches during the 2024 and 2025 campaign, the American football authorities have slapped the duo with a lifetime ban.
The probe was launched after suspicious betting alerts were flagged by the league’s integrity monitoring partners. MLS later appointed law firm Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP to conduct a comprehensive review while both players were placed on administrative leave.
Investigators found that the duo engaged in extensive betting on football matches, including games involving their own teams. In one incident on October 19, 2024, the players reportedly placed a wager on Jones to receive a yellow card in a match — which eventually happened.
MLS also concluded that the pair likely shared confidential information with other bettors about their intentions to receive bookings, although there was no evidence that the betting activities influenced the outcome of any match.
Yeboah, who previously played for clubs including Manchester City, Real Oviedo, Numancia and Wisła Kraków, recently joined Qingdao Hainiu in the Chinese Super League on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Derick Jones is currently unattached after ending his spell with MLS outfit Columbus Crew.
The lifetime suspension effectively ends the duo’s involvement in MLS competitions and stands as one of the league’s strongest disciplinary actions for betting-related offences.
