Four Miners have reportedly died on the mining site of Nawara Mining Company within a few months this year in Akyem Osino.
Some residents are accusing the Company of negligence and disregard for mining safety protocols and pollution of the environment.
The latest incident occurred on May 18, 2020, around 9:00am.
The bodies of the deceased persons -Atwere Emmanuel,29, and Gyimah Samuel have been deposited at Kibi Government Hospital Morgue.
The police report suggests that the two were illegal miners who went to scavenge for gold “known locally as kolikoli in an abandoned mining pit of Nawara Mining Company.
However, whilst prospecting for the precious mineral, the pit suddenly caved in on them. They were belatedly removed from the pit after strenuous effort but pronounced dead on arrival at the Hawa Memorial Hospital at Akyem Osiem.
According to residents, the deceased persons were licensed Community miners working with the company disputing police claim that they were illegal miners.
They want mining regulatory bodies in the country to investigate the company over these incidents.
