The court has granted bail to the nine suspects charged in connection with the shooting of former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo.
They were admitted to bail for GH¢500,000 apiece, with two sureties. The sureties do not have to be justified, but they must sign a bail justification form as part of the court’s requirements.
The accused have all pled not guilty to five counts, which include using an offensive weapon, possessing an offensive weapon, prohibiting vigilante organizations, discharging firearms in public, and inflicting unlawful damage.
The case stems from a gunshot event that happened at a meeting connected to the Kristo Asafo Mission, which has been involved in a leadership struggle since its founder, Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, passed away.
The injured former MP’s brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, and Benjamin Amoakwa Sam are among the accused.
Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom are the others. According to reports, some of the suspects are Nana Kwadwo Kantanka Akofena’s personal bodyguards.
According to the prosecution, the alleged shooting that injured Ms. Adwoa Safo took place amid events related to a contentious installation procedure at the Kristo Asafo Mission.
As investigations continue, the court is anticipated to keep hearing the case.
