MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage and promoting community development by donating a total of GH¢50,000 in cash, airtime, and assorted items to support the 2026 Akyem Tafo Ohum Festival in the Eastern Region.
Speaking during the presentation at Akyem Tafo, MTN’s Area Sales Manager for the Eastern, Volta and Oti regions, Mr. Ransford Gyan, said the company was delighted to once again partner with the chiefs and people of Akyem Tafo in celebrating the Ohum Festival.
He described the festival as a significant cultural event that preserves the area’s rich heritage while promoting unity and development.
Mr. Gyan noted that MTN has built a longstanding relationship with the people of Akyem Tafo and remains proud to be associated with a festival that continues to strengthen cultural identity while creating economic opportunities for traders, artisans, transport operators, food vendors, and other local businesses.
As part of its support for this year’s Tafo Ohum Festival, MTN Ghana presented GH¢20,000 in cash, GH¢1,000 worth of airtime, and a drinks hamper to the Akyem Tafo Traditional Council.
Mr. Gyan also announced that MTN would establish customer experience centres at strategic locations during the festival to bring its services closer to residents and visitors while enhancing customer support throughout the celebrations.
At a separate ceremony in Akyem Abuakwa, MTN Ghana donated GH¢30,000 in cash, GH¢2,000 worth of airtime, and a drinks hamper to support activities marking the annual Ohum Festival.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Gyan said the donation reflects MTN’s commitment to being a “Force for Good” by supporting communities through strategic partnerships, technology, and development initiatives that create lasting social and economic impact.
He commended the leadership of Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, as well as the chiefs and elders of Akyem Abuakwa, for preserving the area’s rich traditions while promoting peace, unity, and development. He expressed optimism that MTN would continue to strengthen its partnership with communities across the country.
The donations form part of MTN Ghana’s activities marking its 30th anniversary under the theme, “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You,” highlighting the company’s continued commitment to connecting communities, supporting local development, and contributing to national growth.
The Akyem Tafohene, Osabarima Adusei Peasah IV, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the management of MTN Ghana for the donation. He also appealed to the telecommunications company to expand network connectivity in the Tafo area to improve communication services for residents.
