Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has refuted allegations that the government is not contributing enough funds to the economy by highlighting billions of cedis in government spending across important industries.
The remarks come after the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) expressed worries that the government’s budgetary management strategy is not generating significant economic activity for businesses and consumers.
Critics contend that although important economic statistics may be improving, businesses and citizens are still under financial strain, and the advantages of the recovery have not yet been fully felt.
On Thursday, July 23, Dr. Forson presented the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review before Parliament, stating that the government has maintained appropriate expenditure while allocating funds to vital economic sectors.
He claimed that public sector wages, debt repayment, healthcare, education, infrastructure development, and social intervention programs have all benefited from government spending.
“In the spirit of transparency and accountability, allow me to lay before this House a clear account of some of the expenditure we have made so far in support of government programmes across sectors approved in the 2026 Budget,” he said.
