A leading member of the Concerned Citizens of Atiwaa Landscape, Mr. Poul Asumaku, has welcomed comments by the President concerning the protection and preservation of the Atiwaa Landscape, describing the announcement as one of the key issues close to the heart of the group.
According to Mr. Asumaku, the concerns raised by the group over the protection of the Atiwaa Landscape have been consistent, particularly regarding the need for stronger measures to safeguard the forest and its natural resources from activities that could threaten its sustainability.
He explained that the recent statement by the President aligns with one of the major demands contained in a petition submitted by the Concerned Citizens of Atiwaa Landscape to Parliament on the 22nd of this year.
Mr. Asumaku said the group is particularly hopeful that Parliament will take up the issues raised in the petition and carefully consider the measures needed to protect the Atiwaa Landscape.
He noted that the group has been waiting for Parliament to discuss the petition and take the necessary steps to translate their concerns into concrete action.
Mr. Asumaku further expressed appreciation to the government for addressing an issue which, according to him, has been a major concern for residents, environmental advocates and other stakeholders who are committed to protecting the Atiwaa Landscape.
He described the President’s position as a welcome message and said it has given the group renewed hope that the concerns raised in their petition will receive the attention they deserve.
He stressed that protecting the Atiwaa Landscape is important not only for the communities surrounding the forest but also for the preservation of Ghana’s natural resources and the benefit of future generations.
Mr. Poul Asumaku made these remarks on Bryt Adekyee mu Nsem, where he reiterated the group’s commitment to working with relevant authorities and other stakeholders to ensure that the Atiwaa Landscape receives the protection it needs.
He therefore called on Parliament and the government to follow through on the President’s statement by taking practical steps to address the concerns raised by the Concerned Citizens of Atiwaa Landscape.
