Mr. Charles Acheampong, Spectrum Manager at the National Communications Authority (NCA) has won the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Primaries in the Lower West Akyem Constituency in the Eastern Region.
He pulled 181 votes out of 598 Total votes cast to defeat Deputy Director in charge of operations at State Transport Company, Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, the Chief Executive officer of Ghana Tourism Development Authority, Kwadwo Odame Antwi, who also had 179 and 96 votes respectively.
The candidate elect, surprised other Aspirants and supporters of the party because he was new in the race, compared to the four others who have been in the race for the second and third time.
Incumbent Member of Parliament, Eyiah Kyei Baffour, who picked nomination forms, could not file due to his health issues.
Others who were defeated in the Constituency are former MP who served from 2008 to 2016, Gifty Klenam who also served at Ghana Investment Promotion Council and an International Business Consultant, Kwabena Asamoah Nkansah who also had 54 and 86 votes respectively.
The election was conducted in seven Voting Centers in the Constituency and it will be observed by Chief of Asamankese, Osabarima Adu Darko III, and some sub-chiefs, Lower West Akyem NDC Parliamentary Candidate and some Executives from the NDC.
The Lower West Akyem seat is being occupied by the NPP since the year 2000.
In 2015 NPP primaries, five people contested the seat, but Eyiah Kyei Baffour was the delegate’s choice and he won the Parliamentary seat in 2016 with 27,056 votes, representing 59.87%, while NDC’s candidate, Shirley Naana Osei Ampem also obtained 18,011 39.86%.
