Dr. Akoto Ampaw has assumed office as Medical Director of the Eastern Regional Hospital.
Dr. Akoto Ampaw who is currently the Eastern Regional Chairman of Ghana Medical Association (GMA) succeeds Dr. Kwame Anim-Boamah who was in February this year moved to head University of Ghana Medical Center as the first Medical Director.
Dr. Cardinal Newton then Deputy to Dr. Anim-Boamah acted for many months until May when he was transferred Ahafo Region.
Dr. Akoto Ampaw before his appointment was the Medical Superintendent of Atibie Government Hospital. He has been described as very affable and hard-working who does not glorify mediocrity.
Dr. Akoto Ampaw will on July 15, 2020, meet all Specialists and Medical Officer to share his Vision to leap the regional hospital to its target of the center of medical excellence.
The greatest aim of the Eastern Regional Hospital is to serve the general public with quality and excellent health care.
For the next 10 years, the hospital wants to grow to become postgraduate training center for the West Africa and Ghana colleges of Physicians and a teaching hospital for undergraduate training of doctors in collaboration with Mountcrest University (Ghana) and Penn State University (U.S.A).
The Hospital is focusing on human resource training of specialist doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and laboratory personnel’s as well as non-clinical staff (already underway).
The hospital wants to be equipped with modern equipment such as laboratory analyzers and Histopathology machines, laparoscopy machines, endoscopy machines for upper and lower GI, Fluoroscopy machines, treadmill, and other equipment for physiotherapy department and equipment for Glaucoma center. With the incorporation of information technology and health, the hospital expanded its Health Information System (HAMS) to cover in-patients and viewing radiology images (PACS).
