The Inner-city and Zongo Development Minister, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid has asked the people of Ghana to help break the eight-year cycle of government in office in order to help move the development in the country.
He believes that Ghanaians can do this by giving the ruling government New Patriotic Party (NPP) another term of office and be allowed to continue for over 30 years so that the country can continue developing and not drawn back by the opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) after every 8 year that the NPP government leaves power.
Speaking with the Regional Campaign Team in the Northern Region he said this.
According to him, the ruling government has created a lot of developmental projects and programs that have propelled the country but the progress been made always see denial when the party leaves power.
So, there is the need for Ghanaians to ensure that the NPP stays in power for a long period so that it will be difficult for the opposition to get back on their feet when they fall.
Noting that the NDC has already been given the opportunity to rule the country for 27 years which the country was rather destroyed than it being developed.
Revealing that “Once we win 2020, we can break the eight-year cycle. You see, eight years forward, eight years back, Walahi it won’t help this country and that’s why I said Walahi. Those who have studied Development economics anywhere in the world see anywhere in the world that country that has developed went through this”.
“Ghana’s envy list Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea ask them whether they were doing eight years forward, eight years backwards. No, each one of them had at least consistent leadership for twenty years and that’s what you need to be able to make any serious progress anywhere in the world”.
“So, we have to work had to break the eight years cycle in 2024 so that we can continue beyond 2024, 2028, 2032. So that if after 2032 they come back, they cannot reverse our progress anymore because we would have taken this country very far and it will become very difficult for them to reverse. So, let us work hard, it’s possible”, he added.
