The Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Engineer Emmanuel Antwi Darkwah has said they have commenced the process to Convert Akosombo Township into a smart city and make it a Technology Hub of Ghana.
He added that VRA will leverage on the Infrastructure and human skills set that are abundant in the Akosombo area.
Engineer Emmanuel Antwi Darkwah said this in Accra during the launch of the 60th Anniversary celebration slated for April 2020 on the theme “Celebrating 60 years in Power Business; our legacy our future.”
The CEO said the VRA will establish a solar part in rooftop solar facilities in Akosombo, Aboadze, and Akuse enclaves as evidence of a new commitment to living in a green environment.
Ign. Antwi Darkwah said the Authority will ensure that there is adequate competitive price electricity to support Industries and social development in the Country.
He said VRA has embarked on Renewable projects to meet the National demand in an Environmentally sustainable manner which includes 60MW Pwalugu Dam project with an additional Solar component of 50MW, Construction of 17MW Kaleo- Lawra solar plant, and other projects in Anloga and Ada which are under development.
However, Ing.Antwi Dankwa said VRA will continue to nurse other potential Renewable projects in Oti River and Pipeline of solar projects in Bongo, Walewale, and other places.
