President Nana Akufo-Addo is the guest of honor to crown the Best Farmer 2020 in Techiman in Bono Region today.
The President was in the Ashanti Region for a four-day tour which is expected to end Saturday but he has joined the country’s gallant farmers and fisher folks gathered there to be rewarded at a grand durbar to climax the 36th edition of the National Farmers’ Day celebration.
This year’s celebration on the theme: “Ensuring Agribusiness Development under COVID-19 – Opportunities and Challenges”, reflects the important role of the agriculture sector to the economic development of the country and also re-emphasizes its contribution to all the other sectors of the economy.
The celebration was scheduled for December 4th but due to the Presidential and Parliamentary elections, it was brought back to November.
About 135 farmers and fishermen will be honored at the 36th edition of the National Farmers Day in Techiman.
Meanwhile, Friday, November 6 will not be a holiday, the Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ambrose Dery, has indicated.
Traditionally, the National Farmers Day is marked as a statutory holiday, but the Interior Minister yesterday said while Friday would not be a holiday, the original date, the first Friday in December, which falls on December 4, will be a holiday.
