The New Juaben Health Insurance Scheme Office has marked this year’s Health Insurance Week with a float through the principal streets of Koforidua, to create awareness on the need for People to renew their health insurance through the mobile short code *929#.
The float saw management and staff from both Regional and municipal offices assisting subscribers to renew their cards through the mobile renewal at major lorry parks, markets, and the central business district.
Dr. Edward Cudjoe, the Regional Director of the NHIA, urged subscribers to embrace the opportunities within the celebration of the week exercise to renew their expired cards.
He added that any renewal done within the week comes with instant activation but was worried about the membership drive within the region.
He revealed that out of the over 3million people in the Eastern region only 1.5 million representing about 50% of the populace are registered onto the scheme and appealed to those who are yet to register to do so.
Madam Joyce Zimpare, a Board member of the NHIA, commended the government for the massive digitalization drive in the National Health Insurance Scheme, she was optimistic that linking the health insurance to the Ghana card which was recently launched by the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia is going to be the beginning of easy access to Universal Health care delivery in Ghana as promised by the Akufo-Addo led government.
