Mr. Eric Kwakye Darfour, Eastern Regional Minister, has urged the Districts and Municipal Assemblies in the region to develop at least one satellite market to address inadequate access to the market being faced by farmers in the region.
The Minister made this statement when he addressed Municipal/District Chief Executives and their Directors of Agric at the End of the Year Party and Awards organized by Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Koforidua.
Mr. Darfour commended them for their commitment to the successful implementation of government flagship programmed in the Agriculture sector of the economy. ” Indeed, we were not embarrassed in any way when it came to the implementation of the Government flagship programme (PFJ, PERD, etc), he said.
He congratulated the Department for the well-organized National Farmer’s Day exhibition held in Ho, Volta Region capital where the region displayed several products along with the cassava, rice, and mango value chain. ‘My office and I are indeed very grateful for your efforts and zeal, you always put the Eastern Region first amongst others’, he stated.
Mr. Henry Kobina Crentsil, the Regional Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture outlined some of them for the activities of the year and urged his directors to work very hard to achieve the set objectives.
He said the department in the region will introduce what he terms “one pupil one fruit per day under the School feeding programme” to address the nutritional needs of the pupils. The programme has been lauded and endorsed by the Regional Minister.
In all, five Directors were rewarded for their exemplary leadership exhibited in the year 2019 under review. The best Director went to Mr. Isaac Man, the Municipal Director for Birem Central Municipal.
