A coconut seller and laborer have been sentenced ten years each into prison custody in hard labor for possession of Indian hemp, popularly known as wee and Tramadol by the Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abubakari Abass Adams.
The coconut seller, Isaac Botwe, 21 years was sentenced to ten years for possession of seven wraps of Indian hemp and three tablets of tramadol at the Asamankese Government Hospital when he was sent there for treatment.
The second accused person, Francis Modzaka, a laborer was also sentenced to ten years for possession of 76 wraps of Indian hemp at the Asamankese Government Hospital when he was sent there for treatment.
Prosecution officer, Sergeant Joseph Boamah said the complainant, in this case, was a police officer and the accused person lives in Bodwease-Kasoa.
He said the two were sent to the hospital after they had an accident that claimed two lives on 30th November 2019.
The complainant (Police officer) who was called to the Hospital retrieved 11 live cartridges, locally manufactured pistol from a bag of one of the deceased and upon further search on the two accused persons who were also in critical condition, the police retrieved wraps of Indian hemp and tramadol from their pocket.
The police allowed the accused persons to seek treatment and after they were discharged, the accused persons were sent to court for prosecution.
