National President for Diamond Winners Association Isaac Anaglah, has enquired why the government and his soldiers are burning excavators worth 15 Billion Cedis (old currency).
The recent burning of excavators by soldiers has become one of the major topics in the country as people are losing their valuable properties; the recent one which has got people talking is the burning of seven excavators of Kate Gyamfua, the NPP woman’s organizer in Akwatia.
According to Isaac, this act is inhuman because these excavators cost huge sums of money, and burning it means an attempt to destroy the victim’s lives.
“One excavator cost 15 Billion cedis in old currency so how do you burn seven of this and expect the person to be able to feed his or her family members”
Speaking in an interview with Abena Pokuaa Ahwenee on Dadi FM, 101.1, he stated that this act will affect the youth deeply since mining is their source of income.
He also added that the lack of employment in the country is the reason why most youth and individuals are into small-scale mining and galamsey.
“There are no jobs in this country that is why most people dive into small scale mining because if they don’t how do you expect them to survive? This is the only way we can feed ourselves and our families else we will die out of hunger”
He said that there are genuine and legal miners who have been licensed to operate in small-scale mining thus the government should reconsider its decision towards this issue.
“We have licensed operators who have the right to mine, we make sure our activities do not pollute water or cause harm because water is vital to humans so it is not fair for them to just burn the excavators. If this is what they want to do then we will all stop and go home and die out of hunger”
