The Kumasi Youth Association (KuYA) have bared their teeth at the Bishop dag Heward-Mills, the Founder and Leader of the Lighthouse Chapel International for disrespecting the overlord of the Ashanti kingdom, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The spokesperson for the group said the apology by Bishop Dag Heward-Mills cannot be accepted.
“He has to come personally to the Manhyia Palace to render a proper one within 48 hours,” Kwabena Frimpong told Neat FM morning show in an interview.
Bishop Dag Heward-Mills has been captured in viral video uttering some repugnant words against the Asantehene.
He has, however, issued an apology letter to the King – saying the circulated video is over 20 years old.
But Kwabena Frimpong doubts the man of God’s claims.
“He is a big liar,” he said after threatening the closure of his churches in the Ashanti region.
“You don’t joke with Asantehene,” he added.
The Founder and General Overseer of the Lighthouse Group of Churches, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, has apologized to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for using him as an example in a Kingship sermon where he questioned the relevance of chieftaincy.
The sermon on “Kingship” which Bishop Heward-Mills has explained was delivered more than 20 years ago has gone viral on social media recently.
Apologizing to the Asantehene, Bishop Heward-Mills explained that he preached nearly two decades ago and the content has been taken out of context “by persons who have previously declared their intention to bring harm and ridicule to our organization (church)”.
In a press statement dated Saturday, June 19, 2021, Bishop Heward-Mills said the accomplishments of the Asantehene are evident and manifest for all to see.
“I am deeply saddened that a message I shared at a conference, nearly 20 years ago, has been taken out of its context and circulated by persons who have previously declared that they will maliciously cause our churches in Kumasi to be closed down”, it stated.
Not only does he extols Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as the Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) but also noted his achievement in building about 788 schools since he ascended the throne.
He, therefore, apologized for the content of the video.
“I deeply regret that my words spoken almost 20 years ago have offended this honorable institution, which has worked tirelessly for many years to make Ghana and the world a better place for all of us to live in.”
