A 37-year-old farmer has shot his wife to death and committed suicide at Akyem Hweakwae in the Birim North District in the Eastern region.
The farmer Yaw Asar, 37, invited his ex-wife Abena Agatha, 28, to his room Thursday morning at about 10:00am.
However, residents heard gunshots in the room only to see the two persons dead in a pool of blood. The man shot his wife in the chest at close range and shot himself.
Police from Abirim arrived at the scene upon receipt of information about the homicide incident.
Henry Acolatse, the detective in charge of the investigation said, police saw the bodies of the two lying in a pool of blood in the room.
A single barrel gun and spent shells were seen close to the bodies.
The bodies were conveyed to Abirim government hospital where they were medically declared dead by Dr. Atta Larbi Sakyi. According to the Doctor, they died out of gunshot wounds.
The bodies have been deposited at Mamaso Community Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy while police continue with the investigation.
