Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said the successful launch of the Ghana.Gov platform is a culmination of strategic steps to digitize government sectors over the past four years and will involve 20 banks and expected to create more than 1,000 jobs for the youth.
He said it will improve the country’s global ranking in ease-of-doing-business and ultimately boost her Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) drive.
It is a payment and revenue collection portal that provides a single point of access to all services and can be accessed online at www.ghana.gov.gh or by dialing the shortcode *222# on any mobile phone.
The platform was developed in two years by local financial technology companies-Hubtel, ExpressPay and IT Consortium, working in consultation with the Office of the Vice President and Ministries of Finance and Communication.
It was piloted in June 2020 with some 5.8 million transactions with the government raking in GH¢3.7 billion in revenue as of June, this year.
“While Ghana.GOV is not a government’s first attempt at digitizing the provision and delivery of all government services on a single platform (the previous government attempted to do so), the approach this time is novel,” Dr. Bawumia explained.
The Initiators of Change Foundation, an organization focused on governance, poverty reduction, empowerment, and human resources has presented a Lifetime in A Portrait Award to the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia after he was adjudged Africa’s Digital Revolutionary Leader of the Decade.
