The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adamsdam has sentenced a 38-year-old farmer to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for incesting his daughter, contrary to section 105(1) of the criminal code 1960(Act 29).
Kofi Oppong, the accused, pleaded guilty to the charge of incest and was convicted on his own plea.
According to Inspector Susan Ayaric, the prosecutor, the complaint is a trader, whiles the accused is a farmer and father of the victim who resides at Akwatia.
The prosecutor said the accused has divorced the victims’ mother who is currently staying in the Volta Region and some time ago, the complainant who is an aunty to the victim went and brought the victim who is mentally deranged to Akwatia about four years ago and was staying with her at Hausa Zongo in Akwatia until 14/4/2020 when the victim left the house to stay in her father in new Town, Akwatia.
The prosecuting statement said on 25/04/2021, the victim came to the complainant and was complaining of stomach pain and revealed to her that she is pregnant with her father and during the narrative, she showed her antenatal card and mentioned Kofi Oppong as the one responsible for the pregnancy.
The complainant later reported the issue to the police and a medical form was issued by the police for a further test at the Hospital and the accused person was subsequently arrested.
In his caution statement, the accused admitted the offence and said he did that out of loneliness and later, the accused was arraigned before court for prosecution.
