Constitutional Lawyer, Paul Kumi has asserted that no law stops the arrest of a Member of Parliament or any politician.
According to him in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee on Dadi FM, he said that the arrest of MP can be put on hold if the police showed up when he was working in the parliament or he’s engaged with parliamentary issues.
“You can’t arrest MP when he’s in the parliament working or when he’s in duty that is the only time you can withhold your arrest as an officer”, he said.
He also added that, during these periods, if the police insist on arresting the MP, then they have to take a letter to the Speaker of Parliament to approve the availability of the MP they want to arrest.
“When an MP is found in these situations then the police has to inform the speaker to know if the MP will be available for the investigations he’s needed for”, he added.
He also encouraged the Inspector General of Police to work harder to ensure that the laws of the country are put to work in situations like this.
“The IGP is working but he needs to work even work if he is bent on curbing injustice in the country”.
