A 37-year-old Mechanic in Asamankese has been sentenced to two years imprisonment in hard labor by the Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams for careless driving and causing harm to one Mohammed Donkor, who is now deceased.
According to the prosecution statement presented by Detective Inspector Yakubu Adam, the accused is a mechanic in Estate, Asamankese and the complainant is a carpenter at Ofankor.
On 01/02/2021, one Frank Inkoom Eyiah sent his unregistered Hyundai mighty Kia truck to the accused to repair a fault on it, later on in the day, the accused finished the work and decided to drive to Asamankese Township for a test.
On reaching a section of the road at Old Zongo in Asamankese which is densely populated, the accused negligently failed to observe road traffic and also failed to exercise due care and veered off his lane and knocked down one Mohammed Donkor,55 years, and the victim was rushed to Asamankese Government Hospital but he died upon arrival.
A post mortem report confirmed by a pathologist confirmed that the victim died as a result of severe head injury during the accident.
The accused was arrested and his vehicle was sent to DVLA for Examination but no mechanical fault was detected.
After investigation, the docket duplicate was sent to the office of the Attorney General for advice, and later, the Attorney General’s report advised that the accused person should be charged and arraigned before court for prosecution.
