The Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Dr Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko has stated that the introduction of E-Levy is a way of mobilization revenue strategically.
According to Tsiboe-Darko, the E-levy will provide a broad-based platform for the government to increase its needed revenue.
During a media briefing on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, Tsiboe-Darko averred that the introduction of a levy on all electronic transactions will expand the tax net and rope in the informal sector is a commendable initiative.
She said that the extra commission on the levy will go into the government’s coffers to support the drive for entrepreneurship and other huge developmental projects in the country.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, announced that the E-Levy, a 1.75% tax on mobile money and other electronic transactions, as a measure to “rope the informal sector into the tax net”.
