The Inspector-General of Police Dr George Akuffo Dampare has paid a surprise visit to 17 Police officers who were involved in an accident on the Apirede Akuapem-Somanya road in the Eastern region.
The accident which occurred on the 27th November 2021 led to the injury of 17 police officers out of which 5 sustained severe injuries and 12 sustained minor injuries.
5, including a female and 4 male victims who sustained severe injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua.
The other 12 who sustained minor injuries were discharged yesterday and are in their various homes.
Speaking with the media during the IGP’s visit, Chief Superintendent Alexander Kwaku Obeng who is the Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police service indicated that “the IGP has suspended his usual activities in order to visit the accident victims because life of every police officer is of the greatest concern to the IGP and the police service as a whole so there is an urgent need for the IGP to see to it that these officers are all in good condition.”
He further said the IGP’s visit was also to thank the doctors and the nurses in the hospital who are working tirelessly to make sure that these affected officers are fully recovered to continue their service to the country.
He finally assured the public that according to the doctors the five victims are recuperating and will soon be discharged.
