The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has stated that the frequent power outages in the Ashanti region has destroyed all his home appliances.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II charged the Minister of Energy to work to resolve the frequent power cuts in the region.
He told the Energy Minister Mathew Opoku Prempeh when he paid a courtesy call on him at the Manhyia palace.
Asantehene asked the Minister of Energy to urgently find a lasting solution to the problem.
He said that the erratic cut of power supply to households and businesses in the region has resulted in damage to almost all his electrical appliances.
“It is my prayer that you will work to address this matter because if the country will develop it will depend on energy. The frequent power outages have destroyed all my appliances,” he told Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh had paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene to explain why the Ashanti Region had been experiencing frequent power outages.
Dr Opoku Prempeh said the fallen telecom mast that collapsed two towers belonging to the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) earlier in November this year, was to blame for the recent power outages.
Dr Opoku Prempeh assured the Asantehene and residents in the region that he is working to find a lasting solution to the challenge.
“We are working assiduously on the GRIDCo lines that have fallen. We cannot lie to you, we are asking you to support us with your prayer and love, I have nowhere to go, I won’t sit idle for power in Kumasi to be toyed with. We have just encountered difficulty, but soon, it will all be resolved.”
