From Kindergarten to Primary six in Atimatim District Assembly (D/A) Basic School in the Upper West Akyem District of the Eastern Region, only two Teachers are currently Teaching over 150 pupils in the School.
The teachers are male and female who have been teaching in the school for over ten years now and the female teacher handles Kindergarten, while the male Teacher also takes over class one to six and they teaches all the subjects at the Basic level.
In an interview during the maiden homecoming event for Atimatim Old Students Association (ATOSA), Headmaster of the School, Mr. Abdul Razak Husein said that at the Junior High level, only four teachers are currently teaching there and said several letters have been sent to Ghana Education Service to address the staffing challenge but proved futile.
According to him, for the past 17 years that he had been with the School, Inadequate teachers remain a challenge, despite the Community efforts to build Teachers’ bungalows for Teachers.
He said, three National service personnel were posted there recently but since they left, no permanent staff have been posted and only two Teachers are handling Kindergarten to Primary six which is affecting the Teaching, learning, and performance of students and the school.
Mr. Abdul Razak Husein however urged the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education as matter of urgency to post Teachers to the school and urged teachers to accept posting to the School.
