Ghana legend Mohammed Polo has backed Haruna Iddrisu call to include ex-footballers in the technical team of the Black Stars.
The Minority Leader in Parliament recently advised the Ghana Football Association to strengthen the technical bench of the national team ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Tamale South Member of Parliament wants retired Black Stars players to be part of the backroom staff of the current national team to pass their knowledge to the players which has been backed by the 1978 AFCON winner.
“The political leadership, the President, you and us we provide it everything for the national team but your technical bench is not good and strong enough and you must work on the technical bench and the use of the old Black Stars players you don’t appreciate it,” he said.
“There are many experience Black Stars players who want to play a role in supporting your technical bench to be successful regardless of where they come from or who they are seeking to engage them to be able to support your technical bench”
Reacting to his comment, Polo said, “I stand with Haruna Iddrisu on this one. We still have old players who have won the Afcon before yet still we don’t involve them in the national team which is sad”
“I’m glad Haruna Iddrisu has realized this and I hope and pray the FA accept what he said and work on it. It’s sad ex-footballers in the country are not appreciated” he told Koforidua-based Bryt FM.
“We still have some former footballers who are into the game so it is about time they include those people so they can pass knowledge to the upcoming players in the national team. We’ve paid our dues for the country but it has not been recognized” he said.
