Five persons have been shot dead at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central region over an assassination attempt on the Chief of the community, Nana Abor Atta II.
The gory incident occurred Sunday night after the deceased engage in a gun battle with police personnel from the Anti – Robbery Squad and Counter-Terrorism Unit at the National Headquarters upon a tip-off.
Bryt FM news correspondent, Eric Owusu Amponsah narrating the incident explained that two of the suspects managed to escape after five of their colleagues were killed by the police.
According to the report, the suspects were hired by an opposition faction to the stool from Tema after several meetings held prior to the incident of which the police were aware of their intentions to execute the chief, head of the family and others.
The police, however, laid an ambush at the cemetery which is in the outskirt of the community and pounced on the suspects who were in a taxi with registration GG-3427-21 as they made their way to carry out their wicked plan.
“Five out of the seven suspects were shot by the police with four dying instantly. The other wounded suspect managed to escape but was later seen dead in someone’s compound due to the severity of the gunshot. But the other two managed to escape into the bush” Eric Owusu Amponsah stressed.
Meanwhile, the police found three pistols and four pump actions in the abandoned taxi cab after a search was conducted.
The lifeless bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue as police still search for the other suspects on the run.
