As part of the nationwide familiarization tour, the CEO of the Zongo Development Secretariat Under the office of the president, Hon Ben Abdullah Banda paid a 2-day working visit to the Central region.
On his visit, he seized the opportunity to acquaint me with the problems, challenges and opportunities that the Zongos in the Central region present.
On his first day visit, he paid a courtesy call on the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan at the Central Regional Coordinating Council and the Mayor of Cape Coast, Hon. Ernest Arthur at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly.
He was later joined by the Regional Minister to meet with all the twenty-three (23) District Coordinators of the Arabic Instructors in the region.
He ended the first day with a meeting with the Ghana Muslims Students Association (GMSA) of the UCC branch on the UCC Campus.
On the second day of his tour, he had separate meetings with the Central Regional Council of Imams and Ahlusunnah Imams, followed by a meeting with the Central Regional Council of Zongo Chiefs.
Again he later met with some selected Zongo youth in the region and winded up his tour with a meeting with some selected women groups in the region.
He encouraged the groups he met to take advantage of the various programs and projects being implemented by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia led government.
He then showcased the achievements of the Zongo and Inner-City Development Secretariat and Zongo Development Fund in the Central region and he said, the government is committed to doing more such programs.
He also explained the new policy direction and the vision of the President to support students from Zongo and Inner-City communities who will gain admission to read STEM and Law programs at the University.
Also among the support programs discussed included skills training, entrepreneurship and business development programs for youth and women in Zongo and Inner-Cities Communities.
He highlighted the development on the 16 Model Islamic Senior High School the NPP government promised in it 2020 manifesto and the progress so far on Phase II of the Arabic Instructors program.
And he advised the Muslim youth the need to be united in the maintenance and promotion of peace for the development of our Zongo and Inner-City communities and to abstain from hooliganism and gangsterism, and thanked them all for continuous support for the NPP government led by Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
