The management of Kumasi Asante Kotoko are considering using the Obuasi Len clay stadium and two other venues as their home grounds for the remainder of their Ghana Premier League matches.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports on Monday, February 17, announced a temporary closure of the stadium to allow for renovation works ahead of Ghana’s 63rd Independence Day anniversary celebrations.
In a statement released by the National Sports Authority, the stadium will remain closed for football and athletics activities for further renovation works as the stadium has deteriorated to a level that requires an immediate fix.
Although Kotoko top hierarchy admits they are not impressed with the decision since they were not given prior notice, three venues are been considered before they play their next home game against Bechem United.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi based Light FM, the General Manager of the club, Nana Gyambibi said, “Following the decision by National Sports Authority, Kotoko are considering either Obuasi, Bechem or Cape Coast Sports stadium to play our home games,”
“We have to factor how we can get our supporters behind us and even how to convey them to the venue we will select because, in all these, economical factors must be taking into account before we conclude. It is a serious situation for us and I must admit that” he added.
The Fosu Gyeabour Park in Bechem is already occupied by Bechem United while Len Clay Sports Stadium in Obuasi and Cape Coast Sports Stadium are been used by AshantiGold and Ebusua Dwarfs respectively.
