The Jumapo Health Center in New Juaben North municipality in Eastern Region has been provided a Mechanized borehole through the intervention of the Jumapo Development Association.
The borehole was constructed after Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) disconnected the facility over the inability to pay the accumulated bill of Ghc12,000.
According to the senior coordinator of Jumapo Development Association Engineer Maxwell Oppong, “the commission of the mechanized borehole for the clinic was motivated by the fact that we were born and cared through this facility and as a result of that when we realized that there are a lot of things going wrong, we just came together as a group and we decided to give a massive facelift to this facility”.
“As far as we are a concern, every equipment inside the facility was donated by the Jumapo Development Fund, we created the new OPD with the beds, the computers, the machines to test your heartbeat, diabetes and even the maternity and the labor ward they have a modern machine over there, so everything in here was provided by this group,” he said.
Nana Yaa Kunadu Gyesaw who is the acting Municipal Health Director for New Juaben North expressed worry over the high cost of water bills being charged to health facilities in the municipality.
She said following the disconnection of water supply to the Jumapo Health Center, the community was informed during the Christmas holidays which “the community decided to construct a mechanized borehole so that they will go off the Ghana water company sources of water and be able to pay the accrued bills that the facility owes the Ghana water company”.
The In-charge of Jumapo Health Center Winifred Paddy described the recent water bills as outrageous.
She, therefore, expressed her appreciation to the community and the leaders of the Jumapo Development Association for the swift intervention.
Obrempong Kwame Oppong Owusu – Jumapohene, also applauded the health personnel in the facility for championing the humanitarian work and the peaceful coexistence with the community over 60 years of existence of the health facility.
