There is simmering tension in Akuapem North Constituency in Eastern Region over polling station executives and Electoral Area Coordinators elections of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP,
The aggrieved members affiliated with the incumbent Member of Parliament, Nana Ama Dokua have cited the invasion of national Security and widespread manipulation and other irregularities in the election, therefore, have boycotted the polls.
Addressing the media, the disgruntled members mostly supporters of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Nana Ama Asiamah Dokua, alleged that the election has been fraught with widespread irregularities and machinations violating the spirit of a free and fair election.
The constituency Youth organizer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie alias IGP asserted that some members of the party are not qualified to contest the election because they breached the party’s constitution by campaigning for an independent candidate in the previous election.
He also alleged that some candidates with fake nomination forms who were never vetted have been allowed to contest the election despite protest.
The constituency Youth Organizer also claimed that there has been the deployment of national security operatives and military personnel to the constituency intimidating members of the party perceived to be close allies of the incumbent MP Nana Asiamah Dokua.
The disgruntled members on Friday run to the Koforidua High Court praying the court to place injunction the election.
Their lawyers have filed the application on Friday to stop the party from continuing with the polling station executives and electoral area coordinators’ election.
The Chief Executive Officer of National Lottery Authority (NLA) Sammy Awuku, a national organizer of the ruling NPP is said to have the intention to contest the parliamentary primaries in Akuapem North Constituency.
The disgruntled members of the party in the constituency, therefore, believe some National Executives of the party are manipulating the electoral process to his favor.
Supporters of the MP say this is unfair and undemocratic, to say the least.
They said the MP has sacrificed greatly for the party to a point that, four days after delivering a baby abroad had to fly back to Ghana just to take part in the election of the speaker of Parliament and other parliamentary activities in favor of the government.
The polling station executives and electoral area coordinators’ election of the NPP have been marred by denial of nomination forms, confusion, and court injunctions in many constituencies in the Eastern region.
