The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adam has sentenced a 20-year-old motorbike rider, Emmanuel Afanu to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for robbery, contrary to section149 of the criminal offenses Act1960(Act 29).
According to the prosecution statement presented by Inspector Samuel Owusu, the accused, together with his friend who is at large on 8th April 2022 at Yayo-Asamankese agreed to commit wit, robbery and steal an iPhone 7 plus mobile phone valued at Ghs2,500.00 using criminal assault by attacking one Sakyi Michael with a pair of scissors.
Inspector Samuel Owusu said the complainant is a student and lives at Anum-Asamankese while the accused and his accomplice live at Mepom and on 8th April 2022 at about 7;50pm, the complainant was on his way to his house, holding the iPhone 7 plus mobile phone where the accused persons who were riding motorbike quickly snatched the phone from the complainant.
He said in the process, the complainant managed to hold Emmanuel Afanu`s shirt and struggled with him but the accused wounded the complainant with his scissors and took the mobile phone, and ran away with his accomplice on the motorbike.
The prosecutor said the accused later shouted for help from people around and fortunately, Emmanuel Afanu was arrested and sent to the Asamankese Police Station for further investigation after which the police issued a medical form for the accused to attend Hospital. Later, the accused was charged and arraigned before court for prosecution.
