Former assistant coach of Ghana Ibrahim Tanko is confident about the Black Star’s chances ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar.
The West African powerhouse has been drawn in Group H of this year’s global tournament, having qualified for the event after defeating Nigeria in the African playoffs.
The four-time African champions will face Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea in Group H.
The Black Stars take on Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal in the opening game.
In an interview with Koforidua-based Bryt FM, Tanko, who is currently the technical director of Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions indicated the Black Stars can qualify from their group with good preparation.
“We’ve been able to qualify for the World Cup and for the first time in many years, I saw Ghanaians rallying behind the team to secure qualification. I believe the technical team did extremely well”
“I think we have to accept the group as it is because our opponents are not new to us. We’ve played against each other before. Everyone knows what is between us and Uruguay and before Germany’s 2006 World Cup, we played South Korea. Portugal is the last team we played during the 2014 World Cup so I believe with good preparation, we can qualify for the next stage of the tournament.”
