President Akufo-Addo has disclosed that a committee established by his government is working on a proposal to establish an airport that will be strategically located between the Central and Western Regions to serve their air travel needs.
The President made this known on Tuesday 10 May 2022, when he addressed the Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osaberima Kwesi Atta II, and his delegation at the Jubilee House when they paid a courtesy call on him.
President Akufo-Addo in response to Osaberima Kwesi Atta II request reminding him of the promise his administration made to the people of Cape Coast to build an international airport in the region, noted that the current proposal he has been briefed on by the Minister for Transport is that for the building of an airport that will meet the travel needs of both Central and Western regions instead of constructing two airports, that is, one in each region.
Pledge to build airport
On 18 October 2021, during a working visit to the Central Region, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reiterated his promise to build an international airport in the Central Regional capital, Cape Coast.
He had told the Paramount Chief of the Oguaa Traditional Council, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, that all was set for the takeoff of the project as feasibility studies were near completion.
The airport project was announced by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in its 2020 manifesto, which was launched on Cape Coast ahead of the 2022 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The project, as announced by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was aimed to catalyze to boost the tourism potential of the region, among others.
Renovation of Philip Quacoe School
Osaberima Kwesi Atta II in his address also reminded President Akufo-Addo of his pledge to fully renovate the Philip Quacoe Boys Primary School in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
President Akufo-Addo during the 65th anniversary of the country’s independence said the decision to renovate the school was in commemoration of Ghana’s 65th independence anniversary which was hosted in Cape Coast, the Central regional capital.
The President reiterated his pledge to renovate the Philip Quacoe Boys Primary School, which is the first basic school to be established in Ghana by the colonialist administration on the then Gold Coast.
He noted that the Minister for Education, Yaw Adutwum, is fully on board with the decision to renovate the school and the same will be carried out.
