Residents of Adoowa community in Amansie Central District of Ashanti Region is appealing to the Minister of Land and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor and the DCE for Amansie Central District to immediately act and cease illegal mining activities ongoing in the district.
Speaking to the media, residents complained ‘galamsey’ operators have taken all over the Amansie Central District especially, Adoowa and are destroying water bodies.
“We have taken the necessary steps to reach authorities but nothing best has come out from them. The District Chief Executive, Hon. Michael Donkor has been petitioned but he has heaped a deaf ear to our petition” residents angrily said.
Residents are therefore appealing to President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Land and Natural Resources to come to their aid and stop the illegal miners.
Meanwhile, the DCE, Hon. Michael Donkor has told the media that, he does not have eagle eyes to see everything that goes around and cannot speak on any illegal mining ongoing in the district.
He insisted “I have not sold any concession or any land to someone to operate illegal, so what is my involvement in illegal mining?” he questioned.
