Road users and residents at Kumasi Alabar in the Ashanti region have appealed to the Ghana Police Service to come out with combat measures to fight the activities of notorious robbers.
Drivers who ply the Bolgatanga-Tamale-Navorongo road expressed displeasure about the rising number of armed robbers on the country’s highways and are requesting urgent attention.
According to the Chairman of the new Ghana Transport Union located at Kumasi Alabar, Chairman Alhaji Issah Soldier noted that both drivers and passengers have been harassed by armed robbers on the highways and in the process lost their lives.
He revealed that such robberies usually occur on Sundays, Mondays and at night respectively.
Meanwhile, the Crime officer at the Zongo Divisional Police Command, Mr Kwame Appiah Kubi has assured that security would be tight to protect drivers and people of Alabar.
The Police, therefore, cautioned residents and drivers to comport themselves to ensure the necessary procedures are followed to protect lives and properties.
He gave the assurance in an education meeting with the drivers and people of Alabar.
