The Eastern Regional NDC TEIN Organizer, Mr. Ekow Gyan stated that the Akuffo Addo- Bawumia led NPP government has disrespected teacher trainees and the entire teaching profession generally since assuming office.
He explained that the insensitive posture of the Akuffo Addo government towards the teaching fraternity requires that, trainee teachers and teachers join hands with the NDC party to kick out the NPP government coming 2024 through the ballot.
According to him “we trainees are not angry enough, if we could recall in 2014 when the allowance was replaced with feeding grant, a lot of us were angry that the allowances have been taken away but it is a fact that nobody was ever denied employment, and this time that we are being denied employment we are silent, we are quiet, what are we telling president Akuffo Addo, it means we are endorsing what he is doing, we are comfortable with his decision to cancel automatic employment and so I want all of us to be angry from today that it is about time they instituted automatic posting again such that when you complete college of education you will be posted”.
“Even the allowances they told us they are going to pay about four months now you have not been paid your allowances, and for the first time colleges of education are running a double track system, it never existed that you will be in college and then level 100 and level 400 students will be on campus while level 200 and 300 students are out of campus, what are they doing in the house? This is waste of time,
For the first time, they are saying that they are going to charge those in level 400 a teaching practice fee of GHc 300 meanwhile you will rent your room, you buy your own TLM’s and yet they want to change teaching practice fee” he said.
He further stressed that “from today let us go round and let us tell the students our colleagues that president Akuffo Addo is disrespecting teacher trainees and teachers in general, he has no respect for us he is on records to have said that there is no way a teacher can ever be a billionaire !! I don’t know the kind of job that if you do you will ever be a billionaire maybe it is the presidency he occupies or whatever, but the kind of disrespect he has demonstrated towards us requires some kind of punishment from us, and as teachers and trainee teachers we should make sure that come 2024 we punish the NPP, President Akuffo Addo, Dr. Bawumia or whoever that will be their flag bearer through ballot or voting”.
Mr. Ekow Gyan revealed that as part of the NDC’s party restructuring and re-registration exercise, leadership through Dr. Opare Addo who is the NDC’s National Youth Organizer has come out with TEIN Apps with a database that will help capture the details of each TEIN member after which an ID card will be given saying that the TEIN App will also help lead through the National Youth Organizer to channel all information and communicate to the TEIN members.
He said this during the First General Meeting of the Koforidua -Asokore SDA College of Education Chapter to elect new TEIN executives in the college.
The elected seven-member NDC TEIN executives for SDA College of Education are Takyi Christopher- President, Ali Moro- vice president, Attaa Baaffowah Francis- Women’s commissioner, Abban Affua Patience- Deputy Women’s commissioner, Nicholas Ahiakwah- Secretary, Osei Godfred- Organizer and Trever David as Communications officer.
Hackman Kabore, the Eastern Regional Organizer for the NDC revealed that the first TEIN general meeting in the college is to inculcate the NDC ideals into the student fraternity and make them appreciate more what the NDC has done for students and the country as a whole.
“We have the TEIN structure, that is the platform on which they can thrive, you first have to join the TEIN and you proceed to join the party at your branch level when you go back home, so you first have to identify yourself with the TEIN, we have developed an App for you to be received into the App and establish yourself there and the next stage it will move them into the communities and be an ambassador and propagate what the NDC stands for,” he said.
He finally urged the TEIN members to get involved saying records show that majority of MP’s in Ghana from 1992 are teachers, therefore, he encouraged the students to get their NDC party ID cards and that is the only way for them to the frontiers of leadership positions in Ghana.
