The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director for Abetifi Constituency in the Eastern Region, Aduanaba Breck Kwaku Agyekum has condemned the throwing of sachet water at the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu at Suame on Monday July 18.
He described the situation as unfortunate.
The lawmaker for Suame was reportedly hooted at and pelted with sachet water by some artisans over failed promises to reconstruct the roads in his constituency.
The residents had earlier warned that they were going to demonstrate against the government and the lawmaker over poor roads.
Speaking on this matter on Kwahu Atibie based Unity Fm, Aduanaba Breck Kwaku Agyekum said the people must appreciate the work that has been done by the government in the road sector.
In his view, the Akufo-Addo administration has constructed more roads than what the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration did.
“Unfortunate as it appeared yesterday, we need to say that road needs to be fixed, however it is not the case that we have not done more reads than the NDC,” he said.
Responding to the incidents, Member of Parliament for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has therefor asked his constituents to “exercise a little patience” for construction works to begin on their deplorable roads.
The Majority Leader said work will soon resume on the Suame-Maakro road.
Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said the bitumen shortage to the contractor contributed to delays in road works.
“They should exercise a little patience and pretty soon, in the next three days, we will start,” the MP said.
“Even though the road has developed potholes, we have plans to immediately refurbish the place. The situation was worsened by the shortage of bitumen in the system,” he explained.
Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu also assured that it was always the intention of the state to work on the road.
Meanwhile, he also said he is not worried over the conduct of agitated artisans and spare parts dealers at Suame Magazine who pelted him and his entourage with sachet water and other items.
A swift police intervention saved the MP from being attacked by angry artisans over delays by the government in fixing the deplorable Suame Roundabout-Maakro stretch of the main Kumasi-Techiman Road.
