The Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has emphasized the need to make education the country’s major priority since it is the engine for the growth of the economy.
According to the Vice President, it is in line with that, that the Akufo-Addo led government has initiated the free SHS policy to ensure all qualified Junior High School graduates get access to secondary education no matter one’s financial background.
Speaking at the celebration of 100 years of Suhum Presbyterian Cluster of Schools, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia urged pupils to take their education seriously as it is the gateway to the success they admire to have in life.
He stressed that the government is committed to the development of the country as enshrined in the party’s 2016 manifesto, and called on Ghanaians to give the New Patriotic Party (NPP) another four-year term.
However, Chief of Suhum, Osabarima Ayeh Kofi II, in his speech, appealed to the government to empower chiefs across the country to have the power to have oversight control of projects been implemented across the country to guarantee quality work done.
“I am appealing to consider giving chiefs some level of powers to have oversight responsibility of government projects to ensure we achieve the needed output,” he said.
He, also, urged Suhum residents to rally behind the Traditional Authority to fight for the development the community deserves.
The colorful ceremony was graced by other political dignitaries, chiefs, religious bodies as well as the general public with a display by the cadet.
