The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Alhassan Sani Shayibu has disclosed that the government flagship programme; One District One Factory projects has created over one thousand (1,000) permanent jobs for the youth in the region.
He said this in a press briefing organised by the Ministry of Information on the State of the Region Report on Sunday, September 25, 2022.
“We also have our fair share of Government Flagship program 1D1F that are on various stages.
The region currently 6 six factories that are operating under the 1D1F program while (7) seven factories are still under construction making it a total of 13 thirteen factories”, Alhaji Shani Disclosed.
“The Gees Fresh Point in Tamale for processing of guinea fowls, LK International (Moto King) in Tamale for assembling of motorbikes and tricycles, Modern City Ltd at Kanshegu for the production of roofing sheets, plastics etc.
Global Alma’s at Bimbila for processing yam-flour, Poly Tank Ghana Ltd in Tamale for production of Poly Tanks, Technology solutions centre at Savuligu for youth skill training which includes rice milling factory”, the minister further listed the completed factories.
The northern region also disclosed that a total of over thirteen thousand (13) permanent workers had been employed in the 6 completed Factories thereby reducing the unemployment situation in the Northern Region.
He was however hopeful that upon completion of the rest of the seven (7) seven factories a total of over two thousand (2,000) youth will be employed.
The One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative is the vision of His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to change the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on the import and export of raw materials to one which is focused on manufacturing, value addition and export of processed goods.
These raw materials are largely found in the districts which would have otherwise gone waste.
