The Apagyahene of Sekyikrom, Oheneba Nana Asante Korie I has disclosed that Sekyikrom in the Nsawam Adoagyiri municipality of the Eastern Region needs the Inspector General of Police, Dr Akufo Danpare over chieftaincy dispute in the community.
Oheneba Nana Asante Okorie I affirmed that residents of Sekyikrom are living in fear and panic as a result of the chieftaincy dispute.
He predicted the chieftaincy disputes can result in loss of lives and properties and its neighbouring communities and pleaded with the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, Inspector General of Police, Dr Akufo Danpare, Eastern Regional Police Command, Nsawam Police Command and other security agencies to probe into enstoolment of a new chief at Sekyikrom on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
Oheneba Nana Asante Okorie I urged the security agencies to take the necessary measures to enable the supporters of the new chief to be enstooled and the incumbent chief to remain calm.
Speaking in an interview with Nhyiraba Nartey Solomon of Bryt Fm, the traditional leader affirmed that his mandate is to ensure that the people of Sekyirom will live in peace and harmony in these conflict times.
‘‘We are not living in peace in recent times and the security agencies must resolve the disputes immediately to ease the misunderstanding between both parties,’’ he said.
‘‘We don’t want the government to spend resources over the destruction of lives and properties as a result of this misunderstanding. We have petitioned Akwamu Traditional Council, Eastern Regional Police Command and the Nsawam Police Command to resolve the disputes for the residents to live in peace and harmony” according to Oheneba Nana Asante Okorie I.
