The Odikro of the Kwahu Akwaboa community in the Eastern Region Nana Kofi Osei has been arrested together with three other ex-soldiers for allegedly engaging in illegal mining.
The suspects were arrested at ‘Nkwaakwaasem’ in Kwahu East District.
On Thursday at about 5:10 pm by Police and Military men in a joint operation by the Kwahu South Municipal and Kwahu East District Assemblies.
The former military personnel were providing security at the site.
The illegal miners who were at the site working for the chief however escaped upon seeing the security operation team.
The illegal miners have destroyed large tracts of vegetation and seriously polluted the pra river.
The chief, however, denied the accusation of engaging in illegal mining stating that, the mining site is her concession under a registered and licensed company called TLG company limited.
The suspects have been detained by the Nkwatia Police to assist in further investigation.
