The maiden edition of the NCCE/Big M Consult Brain Cowbell challenge ended on Friday 11th November 2022 at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall in New Juaben South municipality of the Eastern region.
Four of the eleven private schools chosen advanced to the final round, that is; Brentford International Academy, Universal Preparatory School, Kovoc Educational Complex and Trinity Royal Preparatory School.
Mr Francis Cobbah, the New Juaben South Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in his opening speech explained the purpose of the competition.
He indicated “Among other things, the NCCE’s mandate is to raise and sustain awareness within society of the principles and objectives of the 1992 constitution as the fundamental law of the people of Ghana, as well as to educate and encourage citizens to defend the constitution.”
He stressed that quizzes are part of his outfit’s annual flagship program, but due to logistical and financial challenges, the NCCE is unable to organise them as expected.
“We agreed to collaborate with Big M Consult when they approached us with this proposal. These quizzes are administered in schools through our Civic education clubs, which have been established in nearly all Ghanaian schools (Basic and Tertiary) and the sole purpose is to educate students and pique their interest in subjects other than what they learned in school and at home, Mr Cobbah narrated”.
