Herds of Cattle have invaded and destroyed about 200 acre maize farm belonging to the Eastern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, Jeff Konadu at Afram Plains.
The yet to be identified cattle believed to belong to nomadic fulani herdsmen who have jolted to Afram Plains area in thousands in recent times.
Speaking to the media, Jeff Konadu said, he has made huge investments into the commercial farm with regards purchasing of agro chemicals, hiring of labourers and machineries.
He therefore vow to join forces to deal with the Fulani herdsmen causing destruction to farms in Afram Plains area.
Meanwhile, some farmers at Kwahu Tafo in the Kwahu East District have embarked on a protest against the nomadic herdsmen.
The farmers petitioned the Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency Bryan Acheampong, Kwahu Tafo Chief and the Kwahu East Assembly.
‘’We the farmers of Kwahu Tafo write with great concern this petition to bring to your notice the difficulties and challenges we are going through as a result of the presence of Fulani herdsmen in our community. Some of us cultivate cash crops especially as coca and majority of us are substance farmers who grow crops like maize, cassava, yam and cocoyam, tomatoes, pepper, carrots, cabbage, green pepper and cucumber” excerpts of the petition stated .
The farmers continued in the petition that, the herdsmen usually destroy crops with their cattle at night ,adding that, they sometimes set fire into the farms.
The aggrieved farmers want immediate intervention to drive the nomadic fulani herdsmen and their cattle away from the area to avert bloodshed.
